Jewellery worth Rs 1 lakh, Rs 1.50 lakh in cash have been stolen from the house of former Union Minister and senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram. According to reports, Saturday night incident took place at his Chennai residence. According to a senior police official, cash worth Rs.1.50 lakhs and jewelery worth 50 thousand rupees missing from his house. The complaint of the incident was registered in the Nungambakkam police station.
The theft came to light on Saturday night when his wife Nalini Chidambaram, a lawyer, returned home. She found an almirah left open and the jewellery stored in it missing. A complaint was filed by Nalini’s manager Murali on Saturday night.
Chidambaram and his family are having difficult times. On one side, Chidambaram is facing the clearance given to the INX Media. On the other hand, his son Karti Chidambaram is facing allegations of money laundering in Aircel-Maxis deal. Karti Chidambaram is charged that his company had taken bribe to allow the INX Media Group to get approval for foreign investment.
It is worth mentioning that the funds of INX Media were approved during the UPA government through the Foreign Investment Promotion Board. Last month, Shivamurthy, a relative of Chidambaram, was kidnapped and killed. In this case the police had arrested three accused.
The finger of suspicion pointed at some persons working in the residence of the former Finance Minister, who has police security for his house, the official added.
He said an FIR has been filed based on a complaint and that a probe was on.
